Flavours

Gaycakes makes cakes for events, so we have tested and tested and tested all of the cakes below to ensure that we are proud that they be served at your special event, be that a huge wedding, an intimate affair, a 20th birthday party or a 50th anniversary celebration.

Our sponge cakes are all sealed with a light sugar syrup prior to being ganached with either a couverture chocolate or white couverture chocolate ganache (see picture). This gives a great taste and eating experience as well as a great base on which to add your design.

Fruit cakes are sealed with a delicate almond paste prior to being iced.

All cakes are iced using a fondant which has a slight vanilla taste which is designed to be the background any cake flavour rather than the dominant taste. As a standard we ice to just 4mm thick unless the design requires a thicker layer - so none of that over thick icing you've had before !

Chocolate Mud

A rich satisfying cake that always gets rave reviews. Goes perfectly with our couverture chocolate ganache.

Orange & Poppy Seed

A lovely deep rich orange flavour to the cake with the poppy seeds adding an edge in terms of both texture & look. No artificial orange taste here !
White Chocolate Mud

Lighter and creamier tasting than our regular chocolate mud cake. Popular cake for serving as a dessert course.

Carrot & Orange

A posh carrot cake designed to make the cake sit happily at any occasion.
Almond & Praline

A lovely rich tasting cake with coconut undertones. Go on spoil your guests with out top of the range cake flavour !

Fruit

Nine brandy soaked fruits form the basis of this cake. It is a classic cake we cover with a delicate almond paste prior to icing. It really is a beautiful way to serve any special occasion cake. Our fruit cakes are made to order and get better with age so the most notice you can give us the better.

Choosing your cake

Design
- Hopefully this site has given you a few ideas to add to your own. Don’t forget a great cake is often the centrepiece to an occasion especially if it has personal touches. Give those some thought or talk to us to help get some ideas. Pick one of our ideas and adapt it or tell us your own and we will turn it into a design for you.

Location
- Give some thought to where the event is going to be held when choosing your cake. 6 tiers and a rocky boat don’t always mix too well for example ! Where will the cake be positioned ? Does it fit the overall look of the event ? Will it give the impact that you want it to ?

Colours - Every element of the decoration can be adapted to fit your event. Do you have an overall colour theme in mind? Perhaps to match an outfit.......the possibilities are endless.

Dietary requirements - Due to the nature of our product we are UNABLE to give an assurance that any of our cakes are entirely nut-free. We are however happy to work with you should you have any other dietary requirements, just drop us a line contact.

Portions - for cakes size does matter ! You obviously need to keep in mind how many people will want to have a piece of that cake and also how big a piece you are going to allow them to have. Size also has an influence on the impact that a cake is going to have at your event.

The standard way of describing portion sizes is to talk about them as either a COFFEE serving or a DESSERT serving. A coffee serving is about 2.5 cm x 5 cm x 4.5 cm. A dessert portion would be about twice the depth (see diagram). Fruit cake portions are marginally smaller to reflect the fact that they are not cut and filled prior to decoration.

As a guide the following cake sizes yield the following portions:

6” ..- 18 dessert portions / 36 coffee portions
8” ..- 32 dessert portions / 64 coffee portions
9” ..- 42 dessert portions / 84 coffee portions
10” - 50 dessert portions / 100 coffee portions
12” - 72 dessert portions / 144 coffee portions

The above assumes that we use our standard cake depth of approximately 9cm. Some cakes do vary in depth to create the required design. Estimated portion sizes and numbers are provided with all cake quotations.
