Choosing a cake
Design - Hopefully this site has given you a few ideas to add to your own. Don’t forget a great cake is often the centrepiece to an occasion especially if it has personal touches. Give those some thought or talk to us to help get some ideas. Pick one of our ideas and adapt it or tell us your own and we will turn it into a design for you.
Location - Give some thought to where the event is going to be held when choosing your cake. 6 tiers and a rocky boat don’t always mix too well for example ! Where will the cake be positioned ? Does it fit the overall look of the event ? Will it give the impact that you want it to ?
Colours - Every element of the decoration can be adapted to fit your event. Do you have an overall colour theme in mind? Perhaps to match an outfit.......the possibilities are endless.
Flavours - We currently offer the following flavour options. By far the most popular is chocolate mud cake ! It’s a rich and satisfying and seems to fit almost every occasion.
- Chocolate Mud Cake
- White Chocolate Mud Cake
- Carrot and Orange Cake
- Orange & Poppy Seed Cake
- Fruit Cake - 9 brandy soaked fruits fill this moist cake.
All cakes, except fruit cake, are as standard lightly sealed with an apricot syrup and filled and coated with a real chocolate ganache see (dark or white chocolate) prior to being iced and decorated. Fruit cakes are covered in a layer of marzipan prior to being iced. We are happy to discuss variations in our standard approach.
Cupcake flavours vary - please see cupcake section
Dietary requirements - Due to the nature of our product we are UNABLE to give an assurance that any of our cakes are entirely nut-free. We are however happy to work with you should you have any other dietary requirements, just drop us a line contact.
Portions - for cakes size does matter ! You obviously need to keep in mind how many people will want to have a piece of that cake and also how big a piece you are going to allow them to have. Size also has an influence on the impact that a cake is going to have at your event.
The standard way of describing portion sizes is to talk about them as either a COFFEE serving or a DESSERT serving. A coffee serving is about 2.5 cm x 5 cm x 4.5 cm. A dessert portion would be about twice the depth (see diagram). Fruit cake portions are marginally smaller to reflect the fact that they are not cut and filled prior to decoration.
As a guide the following cake sizes yield the following portions:
4” ..- 8 dessert portions / 16 coffee portions
6” ..- 18 dessert portions / 36 coffee portions
8” ..- 32 dessert portions / 64 coffee portions
9” ..- 42 dessert portions / 84 coffee portions
10” - 50 dessert portions / 100 coffee portions
12” - 72 dessert portions / 144 coffee portions
The above assumes that we use our standard cake depth of approximately 9cm. Some cakes do vary in depth to create the required design. Estimated portion sizes and numbers are provided with all cake quotations.
PLACING AN ORDER
Availability / Need a cake in a hurry ?
If you want to guarantee our availability for a particular date it is best to book as soon as possible. If you can give 2 - 3 weeks notice then availability is never usually a problem. Our cakes remain fresh for at least 5 days from the collection/delivery date, if stored correctly, so think about getting your cake early if your preferred date is not available. This often makes sense anyway if you have a busy event to plan - one less thing to worry about on the day !
We can work to a minimum of 3 days notice for most cakes (apart from fruit cakes) subject to available capacity. More complicated cakes or those cake where the design element takes a while to agree we like a little longer. However if you contact us with your requirements then we can help you in 90% of cases, or at least tell you what we can do instead if your idea will take longer than the timescale available.
Design agreement
Once you have given the above some thought you probably have a budget in mind and are ready to talk to us about placing an order. Starting this process can either be done by calling us or using our enquiry form. We are happy to meet you in Woolloomooloo if you wish to discuss your order in person prior to making a booking. There is no charge for this service.
Based on the information that we discuss we will put together a costing for you and, if you decide to proceed, a design agreement. The design agreement will go into some detail about the size and design of the cake and include such information as the date required and any messages or special requests. This enables both parties to be confident on the final cake being delivered. We will ask you OK this agreement and also make a payment in line with the table below. This can all be done very quickly over the internet. Please note: no delivery dates are confirmed prior to making the required payment.
Payment

Our preferred payment method is by either credit card or bank transfer. Credit card payments are processed using PayPal’s secure online payment system. We will not see or have access to your credit card details and you will NOT need to set-up an account with PayPal. All payment requests are backed-up by an invoice and receipt so that you know exactly what you are paying for.
If you wish to use an alternative payment method then please contact us.
Note that all payment deadlines assume that we either have processed a credit card payment or the funds are in our account by the deadline date. If funds are not available by the deadline date then your delivery date cannot be guaranteed. We will actively manage this with you so don’t worry you won’t suddenly find out that your order has been cancelled.
COLLECTION / DELIVERY
Our prices are based on the assumption that cake orders are collected (location). We are however happy to arrange for delivery and the price very much depends on your location. Delivery costs start at $25 and we are more than happy to provide you with a fixed quotation at the time of ordering, assuming that your event is no more than 12 weeks away. For events further away we will re-confirm the delivery cost prior to requesting your final payment and advise you if there is going to be any change.
Set-up service
A set-up service is available subject to availability and prices for this are based on your specific requirements.
