NSW relationship register

Same-sex
couples who want to register their relationships can do so from
tomorrow, July 1. Gay and lesbian couples can register their
relationship with Births, Deaths and Marriages.
Persons will be required to sign a statutory declaration to be able to effect the registration, and that will then lead to a formal process which will include evidence of identity, age, eligibility and so forth being provided to the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages.
The parties must be in a committed exclusive relationship — they mustn’t be married or in another relationship that’s registered or registerable. They need to be over the age of 18 years and one person is required to be a resident of NSW.
From tomorrow couples will be able to obtain the required forms from the Office of Births, Deaths and Marriages or download them from their website.
Once all documentation has been accepted, there is a 28-day cooling-off period during which either partner can cancel the process. A registration fee of $144 — the same as that charged married couples — applies.

The
brief for this cake was subtle flamboyant...so we decided on white
boas as the basis. Classic white but a cake that you simply cannot
ignore....and yes there is a 3-tiered cake under all the glamour
!
Designed to help two guys celebrate their 30th anniversary together it seemed to hit the spot ! (phew)

Mardi Gras Dinner at the Zoo - March 2010....more press

Gaycakes has featured in a number
of places this week as the pictures from the Mardi Gras Dinner at
the Zoo event hits the press. It is very exciting to see one of
your creations appear in the papers that you read every week.
I spent the evening with the lovely Pam from ZenDiva Natural Soy & Palm Wax Candles. She made the most amazing themed candles as Bombonniere for the event. A beautiful black & white theme with kissing zebras. Whilst our cake "grabs the headlines" it is little touches like Pam's candles that added some real glamour to the tables...and unlike the cake which is long gone....I am still burning my candle and remembering the night each time I light it !
I am mentioning Pam as she put a great deal of effort into the event and showed herself to be a real supporter of the marriage equality cause (and pics of candles find it hard to compete with pictures of half naked bods at the Mardi Gras Party ; )

Here are some press snippets:

2) SX issue 478 - news section

3) SX issue 478 Scene pictures

4) SSO issue 1012

Mardi Gras Dinner at the Zoo...more

With its Gay Wedding theme the
Mardi Gras Dinner at the Zoo fundraising event for marriage
equality was great fun last night. Gaycakes was the proud sponsor
of the cake and we had a lot of fun (and sweat) making it and it
certainly seemed to please everyone who attended. Set around the
same-sex wedding of two Rhinos everyone seemed to have a different
favourite animal on the cake. Mine was the Lion !!!
Taronga Zoo with its city views of Sydney was such a fantastic venue. I certainly envy anyone who has an event at such a beautiful spot.
Here are a few snaps that I took...professional shots should follow shortly.

Gaycakes latest creation was for
two lovely girls in love who had their commitment ceremony
yesterday. I think that it was one of Sydney wettest days on
record. Surely the dams are full by now ??? I got absolutely soaked
delivering their cake but after lots of prep....the cake made it to
their boat in perfect condition (phew). I am sure that the rain
didn't dampen the love that they both share ; )

Just discovered free event invites online....

Not all events are big affairs.
Sometimes you just want a small celebration, without too much fuss,
but none the less a classy affair. We have recently discovered the
joy of www.pingg.com
here at Gaycakes and
it is a great way to add a bit of glamour to you event
invites....rather than those boring old texts or emails. High
quality invitation templates for birthdays, weddings,
anniversaries, christenings, valentines day etc. etc.
It is free, Facebook, Twitter, email and SMS friendly too. You can add pictures, website links, gift registries.....the list continues.
It will even chase up those people who don't RSVP automatically. What more could you want !
One downside, you need to pay US$5 to keep the invite ad free, but I guess if it does all of the above then that isn't bad.
Gaycakes is in no way affiliated to Pingg and receives no payment for having a link on this website. We just thought you might like it, as we do !

The growing trend of Cupcakes has
arrived at Gaycakes at last. After developing our range of
delicious flavours we are now ready to unleash them on the world.
At the moment our orders have a minimum of 36, they are aimed at
the alternative to a large cake rather than as a little snack, but
as demand grows we hope to review this.

Well done ACT on the first official
Civil Union Ceremony, and well done to the Australian Government
who has decided not to quash to legislation and overturn the
ceremony !

Who say's gay relationships
don't last very long ?
A simple cake design was needed here to capture the "seriousness" of the event but also make it fun. A glitter ball was chosen as the theme to represent the fact that the couple had met in a gay club. They wanted a square looking cake but the design could easily be adapted to a round cake.
Big debate was had on whether the cake should have the red hearts left on top...so they weren't stuck on the end. In the end they were left on : )

Paper anniversary

Celebrating a first year anniversary
for a gay couple was the brief on this cake. It was bought by the
friend of a couple who had got married in France last year and were
unable to include most of their friends in the celebration, so
decided to hold an event to mark their first anniversary. Year one
is a paper anniversary and so we were asked if we could have the
couple standing up in the middle of a piece of paper....which in
the end was pretty hard to convey. it looked like material !
So we came up with the idea of having them ride an origami swan. Origami swans are pretty recognisable as being made of paper and making the icing look like paper was a bit of a challenge (all that you can see is made of sugar) but the hardest thing about making the cake was not seeing the reaction of the people the cake was for.

What do you call a Gay Wedding ?
27/08/09 12:14 Categories:
Cakes
Gay Wedding, Commitment
Ceremony, Civil Union...what do you call it ?
I guess until they formalise the whole situation around gay unions all of the above will apply. The great thing is that when two people decide to commit to each other all that is forgotten and a lovely day is usually had by all. Creating a cake that often becomes the focal point at such an occasion is such a great thing to do and the reaction you get gives you such job satisfaction.
This cake was created to symbolise the gentleness between a couple when they are in love. I love the holding hands !

Well before I get stuck in to the
regular updates I thought that I would give a quick catch-up on the
last cake I created before I started this blog as it has turned out
to be a popular design.
A delicate looking commitment cake was the aim here and I am pleased that we achieved this with a feeling of a cascading flowers with butterflies and dragonflies. The metal weaved ball on the top add a contemporary feel to the cake.
