Bobby Goldsmith Bake-off

Gaycakes went along to one of the big events of the Sydney Gay scene yesterday - the BGF Bake-off. Based very much on a traditional fete baking competition but with some added glamour, the event is a light hearted way of raising funds for the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation. There is a huge range of entries - some are joke entries and some are taken very seriously but overall it is a very fun event.

The Bake Off judging panel, which comprised of executive chef of Longrain restaurants in Sydney and Melbourne Martin Boetz, Channel Ten’s Ready, Steady Cook presenter Peter Everett and iconic Sydney drag queen Claire de Lune, took each entry through a gruelling testing process based on taste, presentation and degree of difficulty.

After the prizes are awarded the cakes are auctioned off to raise funds. Our entry raised $1200. As our cake was a faux cake we included a $300 voucher for a real cake within the auction package presented together with a champagne package. We left before all the cakes were auctioned but they seemed to be well on their way to reaching their $45,000 target.
