Bake-Off goodies raised over $30k
Local News, By Matt Akersten, 8th June, 2010
The Bobby Goldsmith Foundation says it looks to have raised between $30,000-$35,000 at Sunday’s annual Bake-Off auction.
There were fewer cakes on show than last year, but the turnout for the auction day and quality of the baking and icing was as outstanding as ever, many of the day’s attendees agreed.
Carlos Heng’s picnic-basket laden with a colourful collection of melting moments took out the coveted ‘Best in Show’ award along with the Best Fete Baking prize, while an extravagant Lady-Gaga inspired entry by Glen Lewis (Miss 3D) won Best Cake in the Professional category.
Drag diva Joyce Maynge’s sweet Carrot, Pecan and Thong Delight won Best Tasting Cake, while a ‘Sex in the City’-themed entry by Stefan Bear won Best Decorated Cake. A stunning Goodbye Mitzi Macintosh cake also impressed the judges and later sold for $1,500.
Evelyn Perusco’s Good Old-Fashioned Nutter won Best Tart, Susan Ougham’s Scotch Marmalade was judged the Best Preserve, and the Best Non-Edible Cake featured a winged and black bikini’ed icing Fallen Angel by Dean Morrison.
